Is the Kitchen Table Your “Office”?

Aaah, summer. It’s finally here. The kids are home from school, the birds are singing, and your home looks like Mary Poppins lives there, with a place for everything and everything in its place, right?

Yeah, we didn’t think so. More often than not, the beginning of summer brings big growth in gardens and lawns, needing weeding and mowing. And it can feel like the same thing is happening inside our homes. Kids may have come home from the last day of school with a trash bag – full of . . . well, we’re not sure we even want to look in there – from their lockers and desks. And whether they are home all day or in summer camps, this means new schedules with new needs.

This can leave other tasks that normally get finished on time, like paying bills for instance, falling a little behind. One thing leads to another, and before you know it, your “home office” – whether a corner of your kitchen table or the coffee table in your living room – can feel overwhelming in no time.

So what’s the solution? A dedicated space for you to do your work. Not the couch in the living room where others are watching TV, and not the kitchen table where others are eating. It doesn’t need to be big, fancy, or even a whole room. It just needs to organized and dedicated to one thing.

Any big box store will sell very affordable small tables that can be used as a desk. And perhaps an inexpensive folding chair can be folded and kept out of the way when you’re not sitting at your desk if space is an issue.

It’s time to create space that will support your work. From paying bills to painting to finally writing that book or journaling just for yourself, it’s important to have a dedicated space to do so without distractions. And whether you need help creating the space or even finding clever ways to rearrange other spaces to make this work, we at Morgan Organizers are always here to help you every step of the way.
